The Young Rail Professionals (YRP) network was established in 2009 to bring together people from all aspects of the rail industry, and to inspire the next generation of rail professionals. We’ve been speaking to the YRP Ambassadors recently to find out why they chose this industry and what they think the impact of institutions like the National College for High Speed Rail will be.

Michael, tell us what you love most about your job.
I love the work life balance, and that I have a mixture of office and site work. I also feel proud to be a part of history – we are delivering projects that ultimately improve the experience of passengers.
What would your advice be to someone entering this industry for the first time?
My advice would be to ask questions, especially to clarify things you don’t understand. Always look for improvements to the way things are done. I’d also recommend becoming a member of YRP!
Would you ever consider upskilling through the National College for High Speed Rail?
If there are courses aligned with my career development then yes.
