I found out about the college and its courses whilst doing a level 3 rail engineering course at BMET in 2017
I attended the course as I wanted to work on the railway, and I needed my PTS railway card to do this.
NCATI was recommended to me by a tutor at BMET who had been through a similar journey
He had worked on track, gained his qualifications and managed to work his way up to owning a training venture for network rail and rail professionals.
Studying at NCATI has enabled me to develop new skills
I have learned presentation and organisational skills and how to conduct myself in a professional working environment. I have also become a more independent and responsible person since becoming a learner at NCATI.
Learning at NCATI is vast and they prepare us for the working environment
A lot of what we are taught is industry standard and we have the unique opportunity of being taught by ex-professionals or people working within the industry. We get to use state-of-the-art industry equipment and programs such as Open Rail Concept Station and Autodesk Revit.
We meet industry professionals from the top companies within the industry
We have trips to industry and are given access to places where we wouldn’t usually have access to, such as West Midlands signal centre which is a grade two listed building and Autodesk research centre where we saw a lot of products in development that are not yet in the public domain.
We are supported in every aspect by the Learner Experience team
They ensure that we have everything we need to support our academic studies and are supportive of our overall well-being both inside and outside of the college environment.
My biggest achievement so far has been passing the Cert HE in High Speed Rail and Level 4 course
This was a real challenge as an older learner. I hadn’t done any academia since school and studying at level 4 was a major wake up call for me. I had to learn how to focus again and concentrate on my work, but it was all worth it and great preparation for the level 5 foundation degree.
I have ambitions of owning my own business one day
I am very invested in my studies and hope to complete my BSc at NCATI and progress on to an MBA/MSC. In five years’ time I hope to have completed my studies and be in employment with my own business venture.
