Learner Support Information

Starting a course at a new college can be a daunting experience, but our teams are all here to support you. We have a range of services available to ensure that learners feel safe, confident, equipped and respected. We want to make sure you are able to get the best out of your time training with the college!

Learner Support Teams

We believe that happy learners are successful learners. Our staff have an open door policy, and we’re really proud of the inclusive environment we have created. Additional learning support needs are identified at the earliest possible opportunity and we provide personalised, individual learning plans for every learner when they start their course.

Personal Tutor / Progress Coach

If you have any additional educational or learning needs, the college will also provide you with a personal tutor/ progress coach, whose job it is to provide any support that will help you.

Employer Mentoring Scheme

You will be offered a mentor from the rail industry who will help you understand how to work towards the career you want. They (and we) will also help you develop the personal skills needed to make decisions about your future and how to work effectively in different roles.
When you start on your course, we will match you up with an employer that you have plenty in common with. They will then arrange to meet you on a regular basis throughout the year to help you out and keep track of your progress.

All full-time learners are offered a full month of work experience during the summer term. In addition to this, learners are given access to employers through guest speakers and visits. We also make sure you have access to our employability programme, which includes sessions and activities on:

• Self and occupational awareness
• Confidence emotional resilience development
• CV development
• Interview techniques
• Public speaking
The college is a big team and we want everyone who attends or works here to be proud to be a part of it. There are lots of college events and visits and we encourage everyone to get involved in as many as possible! The industry is full of opportunities and we are here to help you find the ones that work for you.
